There are different methods of performing electrolysis

Thermoloysis/Diathermy

This epilation technique produces heat, using a high frequency, short wave diathermy current to cauterise the hair at its follicle. This current is channelled through a very fine needle to the desired area; the heat is discharged for 1-3 seconds.

Galvanic

This is the original method of epilation, using a galvanic current, which causes the salt and water in the hair follicle around the probe to be chemically altered, producing lye. Lye is the caustic substance that is the destructive ingredient in the galvanic technique. Lye dissolves the dermal papilla that causes hair growth.

Galvanic has been perceived as being more effective than diathermy, although the method of hair removal takes longer than diathermy or blend. Lye can reach all parts of the hair follicle, as it's a fluid, so this means that distorted and curved follicles can be effectively treated.

Blend

The blend epilation technique, is literally what it's called, it's the blend of both the diathermy and galvanic currents. This technique is based on the theory that lye is more caustic when it is heated, so theoretically this should be the most effective technique. When blended the lye becomes more turbulent and therefore gets into all areas of the follicle.

The heat means the tissue surrounding the dermal papilla becomes more porous, the lye can then diffuse into it, making the treatment more effective. The blend of both the heat and chemical reaction means this treatment is less uncomfortable than diathermy alone, although it takes slightly longer.

Absolute Aesthetics Kuldeep Minocha

A new face at Absolute Aesthetics!

Dr. Kuldeep Minocha has joined Absolute Aesthetics and will be working at Guildford one day a week. Kuldeep specialises in advanced facial injections and needle free techniques. These specialised techniques include the Nefertiti neck lift, liquid face lift and tear trough filling.
We are hosting an evening event with Kuldeep on Tuesday 22nd May from 18.00 where he will demonstrate his ‘needle free’ techniques and explain why he believes that less is more, in the art of facial aesthetics. It will be a small, informal event and numbers will be restricted - please call 01483 477 189 to confirm your place.

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra Case Series

Absolute Aesthetics are looking for volunteers to take part in a case series to treat Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra. This condition is a common disorder which normally develops in adolescence on black skin and is identified by smooth, dome shaped, brown to black papules seen mainly on the cheeks, neck and upper chest.
