Electrolysis - courses of treatment

For most people one course of treatment will not be sufficient to remove all unwanted hair, this is often because of a number of reasons:

Wavy/Kinky hair

If you hair is naturally wavy, you often have distorted follicles, these require a number of treatments as the papilla (hair follicle) is difficult to reach on the first session; the hair is often weakened after the first treatment but not destroyed.

Destroyed follicles

Often caused by tweezing or waxing the area, this can also cause greater re-growth. A hair takes on average 8 weeks to re-grow, so if a client has been tweezing or waxing up until recently and has decided to come for electrolysis, hairs can re-emerge after treatment as they were not treated by the electrolysis but previous removed through waxing or tweezing. So you should be aware that it will not be an ineffective treatment with electrolysis but hair may re-emerge from previous treatments.

Sensitive Skin

If the client has sensitive skin; the treatment will need to be done in stages, to prevent skin damage.

Hormone Imbalance

This is often a reason for excessive hair re-growth. Should you suspect this, it would be advisable to consult your doctor.
